where to go on the north shore in minnesota

I live in northern Minnesota near the North Shore on Lake Superior, which is one of Minnesota’s highlights and in my opinion, the prettiest place in the state. There are many state parks and beautiful areas open to recreation and I am going to share a few must-see places/my favorite spots with you if you plan to visit the North Shore or live in Minnesota and have never made it there!

1. Tettegouche State Park

Tettegouche State Park is home to many different waterfalls such as High Falls, Two Step Falls, Illgen Falls, and Beaver River Falls. This park also has beautiful trails and cliffs. Shovel Point is also a must see if you get to Tettegouche which is fairly close to the visitor center!

2. Palisade Head

Palisade Head is a famous spot on the North Shore for its giant rock formation. It’s a great spot to overlook Lake Superior!

3. Temprance River State Park

This park is absolutely stunning! It has rock climbing, fishing, hiking, camping, and many scenic areas along the river and lake. I love its rocky landscape and gorgeous views!

4. Black Beach

This is my favorite beach in MN. This is a black sand beach in Silver Bay with thickly forested hillsides around it. There is an Island visible from the shore. There are picnic tables available and it’s a great place to have a campfire!

5. Gooseberry Falls State Park

This park typically has more people at it than the rest of the parks. It has BEAUTIFUL trails, scenic waterfalls/Lake Superior Shoreline, campsites, and a visitor center/nature store.

6. Bear and Bean Lake

This is my favorite hike in Minnesota! This is definitely one of the harder hikes but the view of bear lake makes it so worth it! You can access this trail from Silver Bay!
